Minimally Invasive Procedure for Haemorrhoids (MIPH)
Stapled haemorrhoidopexy repositioning prolapsed haemorrhoids above the dentate line — significantly less pain.
What is Minimally Invasive Procedure for Haemorrhoids (MIPH)?
MIPH (Minimally Invasive Procedure for Haemorrhoids), also called Stapled Haemorrhoidopexy or PPH, uses a circular stapling device to excise redundant rectal mucosa above the haemorrhoidal cushions — simultaneously repositioning prolapsed haemorrhoids and interrupting their blood supply. Dr. Tagore Mohan Grandhi performs MIPH as a day surgery procedure. By operating above the dentate line, in an area with minimal pain receptors, MIPH provides significantly less post-operative pain than conventional haemorrhoidectomy, with return to normal activity in 2–3 days.
How the Procedure Works
Anaesthesia
Short general or spinal anaesthesia. Circular anal dilator inserted and secured for access.
Purse-String Suture
Suture placed in rectal mucosa above the haemorrhoidal cushions using a purse-string anoscope.
Stapler Deployment
Circular stapler introduced. Purse-string tightened and fired — excising ring of tissue and creating anastomosis simultaneously.
Haemostasis Check
Staple line inspected. Additional sutures or clips placed at any bleeding points identified.
Post-procedure Care
Same-day discharge. Oral analgesia prescribed. High-fibre diet commenced. Review at 6 weeks.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →Significantly less post-operative pain than conventional haemorrhoidectomy
- →Same-day discharge — day surgery procedure
- →Return to normal activities in 2–3 days versus 1–2 weeks open surgery
- →No open wound — reduced infection and healing complications
MIPH has transformed haemorrhoid surgery. Patients experience a fraction of conventional surgery pain and return to routine within days, not weeks. It is our preferred approach for Grade III and IV haemorrhoids.
