What is Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy?

Conventional haemorrhoidectomy is the surgical excision of haemorrhoidal tissue under anaesthesia, the most definitive treatment for Grade IV haemorrhoids, large thrombosed haemorrhoids, or haemorrhoids recurrent after minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Tagore Mohan Grandhi performs Milligan-Morgan or Ferguson haemorrhoidectomy. Modern pain management including nerve blocks, regular oral analgesia, and sitz baths makes the recovery period manageable for most patients.

Suitable for patients with Grade IV haemorrhoids, large thrombosed haemorrhoids, or haemorrhoids that have recurred after minimally invasive procedures.

How the Procedure Works

1

Anaesthesia

General or spinal anaesthesia. Local anaesthetic with adrenaline injected at each haemorrhoidal site to reduce post-operative pain.

2

Haemorrhoid Identification

Three primary haemorrhoidal complexes identified. Mucosal skin bridges preserved between complexes to prevent anal stenosis.

3

Excision

Each haemorrhoid pedicle transfixed, ligated, and excised. Milligan-Morgan — wound left open. Ferguson — wound closed with absorbable sutures.

4

Haemostasis

Each wound inspected for haemostasis before proceeding to next complex.

5

Recovery

1–2 day admission. Regular analgesia, sitz baths twice daily, high-fibre diet. Review at 6 weeks.
